Hello....
My Name is Martin John Hallsworth, I live in Stockport, south Manchester.
I am a Quality Engineer and Currently work for one of the Worlds leading
manufactures of Kettle Controls / Connector Systems and Bimetal Thermostats.
I am a time served mechanical engineer and have worked within Quality Assurance
- Quality Control since 1991. I spent three years of which programming and
operating a large co-ordinate measuring machine, carrying out subcontract
inspection of oil field process control equipment and valve gear, jigs / fixtures
for aerospace / automotive industry and prototype / special one off parts.
I was born in Harpurhey, north Manchester on the 5th May 1962. My parents
moved to Hazel Grove when I was 4 years old and I have lived in the Stockport /
Macclesfield areas ever since.
My hobbies are :-
Amateur (Ham) Radio
I sat the City and Guilds amateur examination in May 1982 gaining distinctions
(I don't know how ?, must have been a fluke) and received my licence G1GYC on
the 6th August 1983. I have had several attempts at Morse code but never seemed
to get enough enthusiasm to want to use this mode so never progressed on to test speed.
Finding a lot of interest in VHF, UHF propagation, Contesting from hilltop locations,
conversion of PMR equipment, packet radio (Data over radio).
I am have been a keen member and a committee member of the Macclesfield and
District Radio Society, more recently I have helped to form the East Cheshire Radio
Group a small but dynamic group of radio enthuasts and I am on the secretary for the
group at the moment.
I am also a committee member of the Northern Amateur Radio Societies Association
(N.A.R.S.A.) who organise and run the annual Radio and Electronics rally held
at Blackpool.
I also edit and complie "Talkthrough" the news sheet of the UK FM Group (Western).
Computers
I bought my first computer back in 1982 when the Sinclair Spectrum was released
and then 2 years later bought a BBC model B. Both of these were used for RTTY
and the BBC later got used for packet radio.
About 1990 I bought a second hand Olivette M240 IBM compatible PC with 10MB
Hdd (This was state of the ARK by comparision to the latest CPU's), then in 1991 I
got an AST 80286 this had a 30Mb Hdd. Since then I have built a couple of dozen
PC's for friends and given them a helping hand to get going.
I currently have an AMD Athlon XP1900+ which is the PC I use for my home accounts,
wordprocessor, Internet, etc.
I have had several flavours of PC both based up on AMD and Intel processors and at
one time had several PC's linked via Ethernet to a 486dx66 that was dedicated to
running packet radio with TCP/IP protocols (although not on all the time).
Air displays
Living not very far from the BAe site at Woodford, Cheshire I have an interest in military
aircraft and enjoy going to air displays, photographing both static and live displays. I have
been going to IAT / RIAT for the last 15 years and now attend as a member of FRIAT.
Country walks
Around the north Cheshire and Derbyshire area. I find it peaceful and calming to walk
through the Peak district and the hills around Macclesfield.
